| A Proposal Ring | ||
As a little girl I was never interested in sweet romantic story about my parents love, how they met and how my father made a proposal to my mother. I was a little bit boylike. My favorite toy was a ball, my favorite clothes were denim and I had never keen on jewelry as my elder sister did. But at High School everything had been changed when I fell in love. In my wardrobe some dresses and high heel shoes appeared. And only then firstly I asked my mother how was the greatest love in her life and how my father made her a proposal. My mother at age of twenty five and she dated with father more than a year. But she didn’t want to marry him. Of course, she loved him much, but marriage supposed to change her life and my mother didn’t like changes. Once upon a time my mother found in father’s pocket a little Tiffany’s box that supposed to contain a ring. First she didn’t want to open it; it would be unfair, she thought, but her curiosity came best and she opened it. But when she glanced on the ring her unwillingness to get married only increased. True to say, it wasn’t a ring of the dream. It was of a strange shape and a little bit out of fashion. Shortly speaking, mother didn’t like it at all. She put back the box and did say nothing to father. But she shared this story with her only and best friend Elise. It looked like two young women sat in a café and discussed male tastes on wedding rings. Three days later father invited mother to go to the theatre and when they returned home my father dropped on his knees and took the Tiffany’s box from a hidden pocket and asked a question “Will you marry me?” My mother was terrified. She didn’t know what to do. As she said she had different ideas to run away or to throw away the box before he would open it. Her heart beat with a great speed. And when father opened the box she was very surprised. It was absolutely another ring that was better and more beautiful than another one. My mother couldn’t believe her eyes. It was so wonderful and that was a fetcher she couldn't resist and she said “Yes.” As it found out it was Elise. It was she who helped to father chooses another ring better and more beautiful in jewelry store. And I understand the thing that it is necessary to have a real and devoted friend who always will help you in different situation. As people say a friend in court is better worth a penny in purse. |
